Reuter’s editorial staff was looking for a way to showcase their You Witness stories, in which journalists recounted how they were able to report on a particular story, meta-reporting if you will. Reuters wanted a way to distribute these stories at trade events globally.
I came up with the idea of creating a CD-Rom that contained You Witness stories current at the time. I wanted to showcase not only the story itself, but all of the related information that was available on Reuters.com. Each You Witness story contains photos, links to the published article the You Witness piece is based on, related news items and also links to related videos.
The interface was built in Flash and used a set of XML files to re-create a relational database structure. This allowed the content of the application to be easily changed/updated for future events and also allowed content to create associations between data-types, so that photos were linked to You Witness stories, etc.
